Enjoy your own wood-fired hot tub at Alpnhaus — pure Scottish spring water, stunning views, and unforgettable dark-sky nights.

Set just outside your bedroom, the hot tub offers complete privacy and uninterrupted views across the hillside. Freshly filled for your stay with pure Scottish spring water, sometimes a bit peaty. Each evening, we’ll have it heated and ready for you around 6:00 p.m., so you can enjoy your day. If you’d like it earlier, just let us know and we’ll do our best to have it ready for you.

If you want to heat the hot tub yourself, if you’d prefer a different time to soak - perhaps at sunrise - there is a basket of logs is provided free of charge.

Surrounded by peace, you can watch the hills fade into twilight, listen to the crackle of the fire, and maybe even spot deer or owls passing by.

The outdoors

A sunlit wooden deck with a potted plant in front of a decorative railing, overlooking a foggy, forested landscape with trees and a rainbow near the horizon.

Alpnhaus is surrounded by open hills, forests and the sound of nearby streams and waterfalls. There are plenty of little spots to sit — on the balcony, on the wooden swing hammock, by the fire pit, or beside the wildlife pond — where you can simply stop and take in the views.

You may see the comings and goings of vole, mice and stoats outside. The stoat has been known to ‘knock’ at the big window. Or spot the red squirrel in the woods or see deer, fox and badger passing by the chalet. You may hear the hooting of our male tawny owl and the screeching of the female tawny owl. Or see the silent barn owl whose house ‘Owlpnhaus’ is visible in the trees in front of Alpnhaus. You will probably see our resident buzzards and the sparrow hawk. There has been sighting of a pair of eagles above Singdean, although we haven’t been lucky enough to see them yet. Hare are sometimes in the garden and wild ducks on the pond.

Whether you’re enjoying morning coffee in the sunshine or stargazing from the hot tub at night, the outside space at Alpnhaus is all about slowing down and reconnecting with nature.

Snow times

Discover Alpnhaus in winter: a warm ski-lodge-style retreat surrounded by snow, stars, and pure tranquillity.

When snow falls at Alpnhaus, it’s magical. I LOVE IT! We can still get ‘old fashioned’ snow - over your knees snow, snowman snow, snow angel snow — the kind that makes you want to rush outside and leave the first footprints.

Driving up the pass feels like entering another world, as the hills turn white and Alpnhaus appears like something out of a winter postcard.

Del’s out early, keeping the driveway clear and welcoming, no matter how deep it gets. The snowplough works hard through the night, ensuring the road is safe and driveable by morning. The roads are usually well-kept, we have just a normal car (not a 4x4) with winter tyres, which works well.

Built like a mountain ski lodge, Alpnhaus keeps you snug and warm and oh so cosy. It’s peaceful, romantic, and beautifully still — winter here isn’t just a season, it’s a feeling.

Open door to a snowy outdoor patio with a potted pine tree, wooden fence decorated with snowflake-shaped ornaments, and snowy mountain trees in the background. Snow boots are on a doormat inside.

Snowy hot tub

Snow-covered backyard with trees, bushes, and a hot tub.

When it’s snowy, the hot tub becomes something truly magical. We’ll clear the snow, light the fire, and have it perfectly warmed to around 39°C — ready for you to step into and unwind beneath the stars.
