I’m Christa — half Alpine — and together with my husband Del, we’ve spent years bringing Alpnhaus to life, starting with a sketch on a piece of paper.
It’s a place shaped by our love of the mountains, the feel of life there and the quiet beauty of the Scottish Borders. Every detail is made for slowing down — a place to rest, breathe, and just be.
You’re not one of many here — you’re the only guests, and we look after you as such. We’re close by if you need us, but otherwise you won’t know we’re here.
So cosy, you can almost feel yourself drifting off. Settle in, slow down, and have a proper sleep - if you want to jump right in - I don’t blame you! Alpnhaus is made to switch off and unwind.
It’s a place to escape to. ‘A different world’ as one of our guests said.

That we prepare for you
Freshly filled with pure Scottish spring water, sometimes peaty. Heated by us for you, every evening, so you don’t have the faff. Or as we call it ‘pfaffenhausen’. Then just sit back beneath vast dark skies — often lit by the Milky Way.
We’re adult-only, but dog-friendly — because we know that a getaway isn’t quite the same without your four-legged friend.
At Alpnhaus, dogs are not just allowed — they’re genuinely welcome. And they stay for free.
Inside, you’ll find natural larch wood, soft light, and warm textures — everything simple, calm, and crafted with care.
Each morning, an Alpine breakfast arrives at your door — fresh, unhurried, and made to ease you gently into the day.
Location
I remember when we first drove up to Singdean in 2012 - the road becomes quieter, more wiggley and higher -almost like a mountain pass. We were getting more and more happy— the fields give way to open moorland and forests, the houses fade from view, and we thought ‘this is perfect’!
Here you can just about see Singdean and Alpnhaus, tucked into the hillside. When you’re here, it feels like Singdean is giving a gentle hug. Many of our guests feel the same way. We felt it when we first came to view Singdean, in fact it made me cry. There’s something special here.

We’re close at hand if you need us — but we’ll stay quietly out of sight so your time here feels all your own.
As you turn the corner and see the welcome lights of our little haven, Alpnhaus, set in the grounds of 14th Century Singdean which used to belong to Jedburgh monastry. The name of our house, area, burn and forest is Singdean. There are no other houses for miles and yet Singdean is written on maps.
A beautiful and often overlooked part of the country, the Scottish Borders offers a lot — peace, quiet, natural beauty along with castles, cashmere, abbeys and timeless charm. Alpnhaus is located about 20 minutes from the lovely towns of Jedburgh and Hawick
The Magic of Alpnhaus
We’re often asked if we plan to build more accommodation — the answer is a gentle no. Part of what makes Singdean so special is its stillness. You are our only guests, and that sense of peace and privacy is exactly how we wish it to remain.
We’ve never been driven by expanding. We want to make your stay as nice as we can. The world feels busy enough — Alpnhaus offers something different.
Singdean is our home, Alpnhaus sits with the 4 acre grounds. We feel deeply grateful to share it. Many of our guests tell us they feel the same enchantment we do — a sense of calm and connection that stays long after they leave.
